lentil chili mole: colleen and i made dinner for the family on father's day. we were going to follow this recipe, but they didn't have any cumin in the house. we improvised and it turned out great! my step-dad paired it (wonderfully) with china bend's nouveau. yum.

June 21, 2009: We got this propane grill (with side burner!) for free on Craigslist this morning. Brought it home only to discover that it's FAR too large for our little patio. So we're selling it for $25 after some considerable cleanup.

Day 56: Grillin' fools
June 14, 2009: We don't have much space on our balcony, and coal-burning grills are illegal, so this tiny propane camp grill works so perfectly for us. We use it probably every other day.

June 13, 2009: These are the invitations I was working on. I really think they turned out great!
Day 54: Secret garden
June 12, 2009: My squash plant is taking off. I was really afraid that being on top of the air conditioner would kill it, but I really think it's actually helped it. It helps dry out the soil between waterings, so that an over-nurturer like me won't kill it.
Day 53: My provider
June 11, 2009: In the midst of Ian being out of a job, he's still doing everything he can to provide for our little family. Even the little things help so much when times are tough.

June 10, 2009: This is actually a retake of a classic picture for me and Ian. When we had Jinx, I was taking a picture of her on the bed one time and wound up with a touching picture of our feet intertwined on the foot of the bed. I love being married!

June 7, 2009: Ian turned 26 and I made him a perfect double-layer chocolate cake and gave him a book from his favorite series, The Dresden Files. Then we sat around in our pajamas all day and went over to his mom's for calzones for dinner. What better birthday could there possibly be?

June 2, 2009: I keep a number of brownie recipes on-hand so that I can make brownies almost any time, using whatever ingredients I happen to have. I almost forgot to add all the sugar into these... Good thing I stopped to lick the spoon before putting them in the oven!

dinner: sesame ginger tofu with apple, zucchini and green beans over rice. did you know that freezing tofu drastically alters its texture. it's awesome!

preserve: recycled and recyclable toothbrushes!! when we're done with these, we mail them back, postage paid, in their packaging to be recycled! they're no more expensive than other brand names and they work great too. i really like the curved handle :)

a light dinner: utilizing some of the fresh veggies from my fresh abundance produce box and some small planet baked tofu i found on sale, dinner was light and easy tonight - just what i ordered!

hall tree: this used to belong to my paternal grandmother. now it's taking up more of the ever-decreasing space in my apartment. i'm like the kid that brings home strays, but for furniture. but really, it's a neat piece of furniture rich with sentimental value (if not for me, then for my dad).

two of my favorite girls: nevaeh came over to hang out with me for a little bit on saturday. she's always a little scared of skippy at first, because all skippy wants to do is lick her. nevaeh finally warmed up to her and skippy eventually calmed downed so i could get this cute picture of them together.
